Beautiful Grass

                                    Beautiful Grass

These turfgrass statistics may surprise you:
  • In a well maintained, thick 10,000 square foot (929 square meter) lawn there will be 6 turf plants per square inch (25.4 millimeters), 850 turf plants per square foot (30.45 square meters) for a total of 8.5 million turf plants.
  • Grass plants are 75 to 80% water, by weight.
  • Up to 90% of the weight of a grass plant is in its roots.
  • Clippings contain nutrients useable to the grass, when left on the lawn.
  • A lawn, 50 by 50 feet (15.24 by 15.24 meters) (2,500 square feet) (232 square meters) releases enough oxygen for a family of four, while absorbing carbon dioxide, ozone, hydrogen fluoride, and peroxyacetyl nitrate.
  • A dense, healthy lawn prevents run-off, absorbing rainfall six times more effectively than a wheat field and four times better than a hay field.

  • Turfgrass helps control pollution, trapping much of an estimated 12 million tons (10.9 million metric tons) of dust and dirt released annually into the US atmosphere.
  • The front lawns of eight average houses have the cooling effect of about 70 tons (68 metric tons) of air conditioning, while the average home-size central air has only a 3 to 4 ton capacity (2.7 to 3.9 metric tons).
  • As part of a well-designed and maintained landscape, turfgrass increases a home’s property value by 15 to 20 %.
  • Safety-sightlines discourage intruders and heighten visibility.
  • Absorbs noise and reduces glare.

In all practicality for homeowners, the water salt load is rarely critical – because you're using "drinking water." Almost all lawns and shrubs can tolerate our "drinking water" in Arizona. For people who manage large turf acreages (golf courses, parks, etc.), other water sources may be used. Water salinity may be much different (greater) from these sources than domestic water. If salt crystals appear within the middle of the lawn, you need to apply more [of the same water source] to wash the salts down.
To help increase the downward movement of water, it is best to poke holes in the lawn, using a power driven aerifier. These machines poke holes 2-3 inches in the ground. You should leave the holes open. The grass will actually fill in the holes. Don't be tempted to, or feel that you must "fill in" the holes with sand. Rake up the soil cores, or grind them up in place with a rotary mower. The open holes are more important to have to keep the salt levels tolerable.

Bermudagrass is quite salt tolerant. Tall fescue and ryegrass are moderately salt tolerant. Kentucky bluegrass is less salt tolerant than the above. Remember that salt stress causes the turf to look like it needs water! The grass will be dark blue-green in color, it will start to "wilt" and "curl" even though the soil is moist (screw driver goes in easily).
If your lawn suffers from salt stress, you can also help the lawn by mowing the turf at a higher mowing height that it is set for currently. This is not a problem for common bermudagrass, E-Z Turf, Midiron bermuda, or 99% of the improved seeded lawn type bermudagrass varieties, tall fescue, perennial ryegrass, and most lawn type Kentucky luegrass. Raising the height on Tifway (419) bermudagrass above 1-1/2 inches can often result in a scalped lawn, even if you mow three times/week. This is because most of the leaves will "migrate" to the end of the upright stems. When you mow off the tips of the stems, you can actually remove a lot of the leaves – because they are located at the tips of the stems. They exist at the tip, because of the unusually higher mowing height. Normally, when Tifway (419) Bermuda is mowed at ¾", three times per week with a sharp reel-type mower, the stems grow along the ground. The leaves are more evenly spaced across the entire length of the stem. So, less scalping occurs on Tifway when it gets mowed regularly at 3/4" or less.
Always remember, scalping a lawn is bad. Scalping a lawn that has salt stress is very bad.
To figure out how much salt is in your irrigation water, contact your local County Extension Office. They will give you an address for labs that will test samples.

Beautiful Trees

                                           Beautiful Trees

1. There are over 2,500 species of palm trees. The Arecaceae family of plants includes wonderfully diverse species found throughout the world, from the desert to the rainforest.
2. Not all palm trees are "trees," and not all plants called "palms" are truly palms. These evergreen plants can grow in the form of shrubs, trees or long, woody vines called lianas. Plants like the yucca palm, Torbay palm (pictured right), sago palm and traveler's palm are not part of the Arecaceae family.

3. Palm trees have two different types of leaves: palmate and pinnate. Palmate leaves, like hands, grow in a bunch at the end of a stem. Pinnate leaves are like feathers, growing all along either side of a stem.
4. Palm trees are important religious symbols.  In the Bible, the people of Jerusalem greeted a triumphant Jesus just one week before his death and resurrection, a tradition now known and celebrated as Palm Sunday the week beforeEaster. Palms are mentioned dozens of times in both the Bible and the Quran. In Judaism, palms represent peace and plenty.

5. Lots of staples come from palm trees. Coconuts are an obvious product of palm trees, but did you know that dates, betel nuts and acai fruit all come from palm trees as well? Palm oil, as its name indicates, also comes from the fruit of the oil palm tree.
6. Palms grow best in USDA Zones 8-10. You don't have to live in Florida or California to use large palm trees in your landscaping. Check out this handy guide to discerning the USDA's planting zone map to find out if the plants would be viable where you live.

7. The tallest palm tree can grow up to 197 feet tall! The Quindio wax palm (seen above), Colombia's national tree, is the tallest-growing species of palm.
8. The coco de mer palm tree has the largest seeds of any plant on Earth. The seeds can be as large as 20 inches in diameter and as heavy as 66 pounds!
9. Palm trees have a history with humans as old as the first societies. Archeological finds have shown that the date palm was commonly used in Mesopotamian society, for food and other purposes. Romans gave palm branches as a symbol of triumph to the triumphant champions of games and wars.

10. Have you ever heard of palm wine? Yeah! Also called "kallu," palm wine is a common alcoholic spirit in regions of Asia and Africa. It can be created from coconut palms, date palms, the Chilean wine palm, and other species.
Though many species of palms are sturdy and plentiful, as many as 100 species are endangered due to deforestation and unsustainable cultivation practices, such as for the heart of palm, which comes from a part of the tree that cannot be regrown. The rarest palm tree is the Hyophorbe amaricaulis; the only one left currently lives at the Botanic Gardens of Curepipe inMauritius (pictured right).

The idea that spending time in nature can make you feel better is intuitive. We all feel this to be true, and many of us have anecdotes of our own or from friends or family that support that idea. People who have been suffering from stress, sickness, or a trauma can spend quiet contemplative time in gardens or taken to the mountains or woods to heal. But nature is not just wilderness. The benefits of nature can also be found in our communities’ parks and green spaces.

Researchers are amassing a body of evidence, proving what we all know to be true: nature is good for us and has both long and short term mental and physical health benefits.

Below you’ll find hundreds of free research studies, news articles, and case studies, organized by adult and children health topics

According to Dr. Roger S. Ulrich, Professor of Architecture at Texas A&M and member of The Center for Healthcare Design, demands on our health-care system are increasing across the board. The U.S. population is growing older. At the same time, there's a push for both lower costs and increased quality.
 How Nature Helps
Dr. Ulrich’s famous study published in  Science  showed that patients with views of trees in their rooms had much shorter post-operative stays than others in the study that had views of brick walls. He also states that designing hospitals so that patients have access to nature and other positive distractions will reduce their recovery time.

Further research published in Psychosomatic Medicine show that access to natural light in post-operative patients reduces their use of pain medicine and their recovery time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number one cause of death in the United States isheart disease, resulting in one in four deaths or 26.5 million Americans per year. Annually, heart disease costs Americans $108.9 billion in health care and lost productivity. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, affects 68 million Americans, which is one in three individuals. The annual cost in the United States is $3.5 billion in lost productivity and $47.5 billion in health costs.

How Nature Helps

According to a study published in the International Journal of Health Research, exercising outside has greater health benefits than exercising inside or in a typically urban setting. The research revealed that people engaging in “green exercise” were shown to have lower blood pressure, higher self esteem, and improved mood compared to indoor exercisers.

Regular cardiovascular exercise helps us keep our hearts and circulatory systems strong and healthy. Cities designed with safe sidewalks and bicycle lanes encourages us to go outside and engage in routine exercise, whether it’s walking to the corner store or riding your bike to work.

Our nature gives us beautiful flowers, attractive birds, animals, plants, green, blue sky, earth, rivers, oceans, forests, air, mountains, valleys, mountains, running and more variety of things. God has created a beautiful nature to stay healthy. Everything we use nature for their livelihood assets, which we should not spoil and damage.

We must not destroy the originality of nature and the ecosystem cycle imbalance. Our nature we live in and clean it from all damage and provide beautiful environment to enjoy it is our responsibility to keep. In modern times, so bad activity of human nature itself substantially disturbed. But we must try to maintain the beauty of our nature.

Nature's gift to us from God to live the most precious and valuable our life here on earth. Nature simplifies our lives by providing all the necessary resources for daily life. On Glosbe you can help, care and as a mother should thank our nature to nurture. If we sit early in the Peace Park, we can enjoy the sweet sounds of nature and scenery. Our natural beauty of nature which is so elegant that you can enjoy at any time. Earth geographical beauty and is known as the garden city. But I say to technological advances and the high level of ignorance of humans so beautiful gift of God day by day are less sad.

Nature never does not damage us like our mother, but always our cultivation. Poets, writers and body for what most people use yoga and meditation, the mind and re-energize in the morning in the garden of the soul

Did You Remember

Do You Have A Little Time To                        Remember How Beautiful The Nature

Wordsworth, believed that a warehouse is a staunch lover of nature, nature, happiness and joy. Everflowing it is a source of divine beauty. This is a friend, a leader and a person with a nurse. That touch your healing. A ruined body or a broken mind, a lot of peace and comfort in the lap of nature. It provides a man with fresh energy and a new zest. This is a manifestation of the divine.

We must open our spiritual eyes and ears. Just enjoy the simple beauty of nature. It is not only beautiful to watch but also to the United States continues to thrill us after this. Wordsworth once saw a waving crowd of daffodils tossing their heads in sprightly dance. Sight filled his heart with joy. Poets felt that he had achieved a great treasure.

Nature is full of beauty and grace for humanity. Flowing rivulets, sound pretty much the cataract, Dancing Winds, smiling flowers and towering mountains. Nature can fill our lives with happiness, goodness and happiness. Is more than any man alive as the nature of nature, a lover of all things. Why Wordsworth wrote that "there is a spirit in the wilderness."

The beauty of nature are infinite. Unfortunately, modern man is engaged in many worldly activities. He is too busy to discover the beauty of nature. He moved majestically to see clouds in the sky or to play with the dancing daffodils, do not have time to listen to the songs of birds. They do not see the starry sky, he is dead to the beauty of a rainbow in the sky. He sold his soul to God Kabir away money. Wordsworth rightly lamented:
